Ear Lobe Repair

There are several conditions that can leave the ear lobe in need of repair.

Today, the popular trend of gauges placed in the ear lobe to stretch it are leaving people with significant holes in their soft tissue. Despite removing the gauges and the soft tissue shrinking a bit, there still remains a large, unsightly hole. 

Other ear lobe conditions can be caused by sudden trauma, such as earrings getting caught and then pulled forcefully (typically, long earrings snagging a dress or other clothing), or children pulling on earrings. Multiple earrings too close together or too close to the bottom of the lobe can also call for repair. Although not caused by trauma, abnormally shaped ear lobes can also be repaired.

The Treatment

The Art of Skin Dermatology offers medical skincare services to help correct and reshape the ear lobe, including:

  • Lobuloplasty – the surgical procedure prescribed to repair a split or torn earlobe
  • We make an incision just above the tear or stretched-out area of the lobe, trim off excess tissue and reshape the area 
  • Very fine stitches are used to close the incision in layers and complete

Preoperative Consultation

Before surgery you shall have ample opportunity to discuss your operation and its benefits and risks with your dermatologist. Depending on the lesion their may be a variety of non surgical options available such as cryotherapy. All options will be explored so you can make an informed decision on which treatment you would like.

The Surgery/ Procedure

During your surgery, your care and well being will be our main focus. All operations are performed in operatories equipped to the highest standards. Post-operative care After your surgery, we will provide you with after care information and instruction on how to care for your wound. We will be available to you anytime for questions . Patients with complex wounds are monitored closely, with nurse led wound checks and follow up with your dermatologist.
