Cryosurgery is a method to treating minor skin cancers, warty growths, actinic keratosis and other superficial skin conditions. Cryosurgery is a treatment that uses liquid nitrogen to specifically target the intended area. Liquid Nitrogen is a very cold, liquefied gas with. temperature of -321 degrees Fahrenheit. This freezes the intended area, causing the skin to fall off or smooth out in 3-4 weeks.
Here at The Art of Skin Dermatology, minor skin cancers are able to be treated in the office through a procedure called ED+C, electrodessication and curettage. An ED+C procedure is used to destroy a cancerous skin lesion such as a Basal Cell Carcinoma or Squamous Cell Carcinoma. A round instrument of varying sizes is used to scrape the cancer down to the dermis. Electrodesiccation is performed over the surgical ulcer to denature a layer of the dermis down to living tissue until the provider is comfortable that the lesion has been completely removed. This is an effective procedure to treat minor skin cancers here in our office with less invasive means than a full excision.
An excision is a procedure where an incision is made in the skin and a larger area is removed. This goes deeper than a biopsy and usually involves the closure of the wound with stitches. We are proud to say that at The Art of Skin Dermatology, we are able to do the majority of surgical procedures right here in the comfort of our office! These include treatments of cysts, lipomas, skin cancers and other necessary treatments. This allows for comfort and ease as you are treated efficiently through minimally invasive procedures. With this, you are able to forget the worry and hassle of overnight stays, long procedure times and far trips. Everything will be done in the office to make you comfortable, and there will be no restrictions prior to this visit. You will return for follow up visits right at the location your provider treated you. Everything else that is needed will be done at the time of your appointment!
