Facial lines and wrinkles can be caused by a combination of factors—including cellular changes that occur, a reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment. Other factors include smoking and even gravity.
Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting or raising eyebrows can also form facial lines. That’s because each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. As skin ages, it loses flexibility and can’t spring back in place.
When do you start to get wrinkles? Fine lines can start after age 25, but the most common age group is between ages 40 to 55. Wrinkles become more prominent after age 65.
